Dentist(BDS)

What is BDS?

BDS stands for Bachelor of Dental Surgery. It is an undergraduate degree in the dental field in India. After completing this course, students need to practice as a dentist. This course provides education in diagnosis, prevention and treatment of caries of teeth, gums and related mouth.

Education Eligibility (शैक्षिक पात्रता)

  • 10+2 or equivalent examination passed with Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology) stream.
  • Minimum Marks Criteria:
    • General Category: 50%
    • OBC/SC/ST Category: 40%
  • NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) exam is compulsory.

Handicapped Eligibility (विकलांग पात्रता)

  • There is a separate reservation for students with a minimum of 40% or more disability.
  • This is decided based on the type of disability (e.g., physical disability) and its severity.
  • A certificate approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or DCI is required.

Admission Process (प्रवेश प्रक्रिया)

  1. Appear for NEET exam and obtain qualifying marks.
  2. Apply for counselling process based on NEET.
  3. Allotment of college and seat through counselling.
  4. Complete the admission process by submitting documents to the college.

Entrance Exam (प्रवेश परीक्षा )

  • NEET (UG) exam is the only entrance exam that ensures admission to BDS.
  • It consists of questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and General Aptitude.
  • Ranks and seat allocation are based on NEET cut-off.

Colleges and Universities (कॉलेज और यूनिवर्सिटी )

  • Government Colleges: High quality education at affordable cost.
  • Private colleges: Higher fees but better facilities.

  • Duration: 5 years (4 years studies + 1 year internship).
  • Expenditure:
    • Government Colleges: ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000.
    • Private Colleges: ₹2,50,000 to ₹10,00,000 per year.
    • Abroad: Above ₹25,00,000.

Average Income (औसत आय)

  • Entry level: ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 per month.
  • With experience: ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 per month.
